As COP 26 gets underway in Glasgow, we are reminded of the key role that broadcasters play in informing the public of what is happening in relation to global climate change negotiations. This climate literacy talk is a 1-hour virtual event, aimed at helping Network members to build on, strengthen, and deepen their climate coverage. The event is an introduction to climate communications and we hope it will kick-start a conversation within the Network that can continue with further training sessions in 2022.
Our speaker for the event is Dr Dave Robbins, the Director of the DCU Centre for Climate & Society. Dave is a former journalist with 25 years’ experience in national print and broadcast journalism. He is a former adviser to the Minister for the Environment, and his research focuses on media coverage of climate change. He is an assistant professor in the School of Communications at DCU and teaches news reporting, climate reporting, and mobile journalism to under-grad and post-grad students.
Dave is the author of Climate Change, the Press and Politics in Ireland (Routledge 2019), and lead editor of Ireland and the Climate Crisis (Palgrave 2020). He is also the current independent chair of the Steering Group of the Broadcasting Sustainability Network.
