Ireland’s community media sector plays a crucial role in giving a voice to marginalised communities, providing a space to share their unique experiences and perspectives. With 21 community radio stations currently operating in Ireland, it’s clear that this community of broadcasters play a significant role in promoting diversity and inclusivity.
CRAOL and the Broadcasting Sustainability Network want to celebrate the strength of community media in representing diverse groups and highlight the social benefits delivered by community radio. This Diversity and Inclusion event will take place on 18th May 2022 at the Gibson Hotel in Dublin from 1.30 – 4.00pm. It is preceded by a general Network update meeting and informal networking lunch from 12.00 – 1.30pm.
As part of the CRAOL event, we will hear stories from a range people involved in community radio, sharing their personal, lived experience of inclusion. They include:
- Jason Kelly, Volunteer at Dundalk FM and Alan Byrne, Manager at Dundalk FM
- Gift Okpe, Volunteer at Athlone Community Radio
- Gavin Allman, Volunteer at Community Radio Kilkenny City (CRKC)
- Karen Meehan, Volunteer with Near FM
The discussion will be Chaired by Declan Gibbons, Manager of Community Radio Kilkenny City (CRKC) and former Chair of CRAOL.
