Sustainability Lunch & Learn #5 – Biodiversity Literacy for Irish Broadcasters
*Note, these sessions are for Members of the Network including staff and volunteers
The date: Tuesday 31st October, 1 – 2pm, on zoom
The topic: In this session we will explore the importance of nature and biodiversity conservation in fostering a sustainable future. Much like the climate crisis, the biodiversity crisis is an important topic to understand, but it comes with its own science and alphabet soup of policy acronyms. This session will provide an overview of the science, policy, the various measures used to restore and preserve nature, and the role of broadcasting organisations to make a positive difference.
The speaker: Lucy Gaffney from Business for Biodiversity Ireland is a bio-scientist and entrepreneur, working within the life sciences sector since 2005 and in the corporate biodiversity space since 2021. She also founded a business and biodiversity consultancy, Wild Plan, in 2021. In November of that year, she joined Natural Capital Ireland to lead the development of a national business and biodiversity platform, Business for Biodiversity Ireland, an initiative funded by the Irish Government. The platform aims to help businesses develop meaningful biodiversity strategies and ultimately help Ireland transition to a nature-positive way of working. In January, Lucy was named as one of the Irish Times 50 People to Watch in 2023 for her ongoing work in the business and biodiversity space.
